John Wiseman is a 1986 graduate of Wilton High School, former captain of the lacrosse team, an All-American defenseman who eventually went onto Duke University, where he also captained the ACC Conference team from Durham, North Carolina.
His wife, Cindy, was also a standout lacrosse player, growing up in Westchester County, NY and playing at Villanova University in college. Cindy has coached the Wilton High School girls team for nearly the last decade, has twice won a state title (2004 and 2006) and has guided her team to an appearance in the CT Girls' Lacrosse Division I Final in the last five consecutive seasons.
John, who just accepted the position of head coach for the Wilton boys team this past August, is thrilled to be at the helm of a program that has won more state championships (20) than any other team in Connecticut. He becomes just the third coach in the program's history, following in the footsteps of legendary coach, Guy Whitten (17 state titles) and Paul MacNulty (3 state titles).
Coincidentally, Wiseman played under Whitten in 1984, 1985 and 1986, when the Warriors won three straight FCIAC Championships and one state title in '84.
This year's girls team is off to a fast start, going 6-0 in their first six games, while husband John's team is 4-2, with losses coming to Ridgefield and Darien, two elite teams in CT boys' lacrosse, a status that the Wilton boys would love to reclaim under their new head coach.

Malvern Prep beats Darien 10-4
Chaminade over Fairfield Prep 10-6
Lawrenceville 11 New Canaan 7
Tough day for CT teams playing out-of-state.
This is the weekend in the 2009 high school boys lacrosse season when several of Connecticut's top boys teams are going to find out just how well they match up against some top teams from other states.
Darien, New Canaan, and Fairfield Prep will all be in the national boys high school lacrosse spotlight as they take on Malvern Prep (PA), Lawrenceville (NJ), and Chaminade (NY) respectively.
The Fairfield Prep Jesuits will take on the Chaminade Flyers on Long Island, but at the site of St. Anthony's, making it a somewhat neutral site. The game will be featured as the MSG High School Lacrosse Game of the Week, the only such game containing a team from Connecticut. The Jesuits are 1-2 on the season, with both of their losses coming at the hands of New Jersey powerhouse, Delbarton, and the Friars of St. Anthony's on Long Island. Chaminade, meanwhile, comes into this game with a record of 5-1 after suffering their first defeat to West Islip High School last Saturday.
Predictions:
Chaminade 9 Prep 6
Darien (home) 8 Malvern Prep 7
Lawrenceville (home) 11 N.C. 5
Anybody who thought Ridgefield was not to be taken seriously this season was seriously mistaken.
The Tigers are off to an impressive 4-0 start behind the play of their senior leader on attack, Matt White, the All-American headed to the University of Virginia next season.
Behind a new coach, Roy Colsey, a former lacrosse stand out at Yorktown High School (NY) and Syracuse University, the Tigers are a very legitimate threat to win the FCIAC and the Class L titles, which Ridgefield finished as runner-up to Darien and Fairfield Prep last season.
After Ridgefield dominated their local rival, Wilton, by a score of 15-4 on Saturday, the Tigers' next opponent was the Chiefs of Massapequa, a team from the powerful hotbed of Long Island. Against Masspequa, Ridgefield proved it is one of the best teams in the New York City metropolitan area.
Beyond a solid performance by goaltender, Jake Hyatt, who incredibly just returned to the game of lacrosse this year, the Tigers out-played the Chiefs on their home turf, winning by the score of 12-5. The duo of White and Colin Scott, a fellow senior headed to Denver next year, combined for eight goals in the victory. Junior midfielder, Mike Galione, also added two goals.
Here are the latest rankings as provided by InsideLacrosse.com - Check out Ridgefield, which moved up to #21 on the list.
FCIAC Winners:
Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Westhill, and Wilton all won their respective games.
Perhaps the most interesting result from yesterday was the Greenwich victory over Fairfield-Ludlowe. Coach Paul Burke's team won by the slimmest of margins, perhaps helped out by their outstanding goaltender, Kyle Feeney. The Bucknell-bound Feeney recorded nine saves and the final score was 5-4, a close call for GHS, who improves to 3-0 on the season.
For Greenwich, they may have a hard time finding replacemnts for last year's senior class, which featured Princeton bound Jonathan Meyers in addition to the likes of Ryan Benicasa and Jim Dunster, both of whom are playing college lacrosse.
Winners in SWCIAC and SCIAC Conferences:
Joel-Barlow defeated the Green Wave of New Milford by a score of 12-8. Barlow's victory is a key win in SWCIAC play, considering the strength of the New Milford team, which captured the SWC Conference title in 2007.
In SCIAC play, the Guilford Indians defeated Branford High School by the score of 6-2. The Indians improved their record to 2-1 on the season, with their only loss coming in their opening game against East Lyme.
